Golf, Recreation, and Parks

imgLancaster offers a growing list of recreational opportunities to its residents and visitors. Lancaster’s Country View Golf Course, a par-71 course, is set among the tree-covered hills and creek-lined valleys of Lancaster. It is the only true public course located in southern Dallas County, and has been featured in Golf Digest’s Places to Play issues.

A $9 million recreation center opened in 2001 in conjunction with Lancaster Community Park. A Texas Rangers/Royce Clayton Foundation/City of Lancaster-funded Little League baseball field is in the park. The state-of-the-art recreation center offers a fitness area, aerobics/dance room, two gymnasiums, child care, tot activity area, multi-purpose classroom, activities lounge, youth room, banquet rooms, and a caterer’s kitchen. The premier feature, an indoor water park, has a leisure and lap pool, water slide, current river, zero-depth entry, and a pool party area. That’s only the beginning!

The park offers a bike-jogging trail with footbridge, pond and fishing pier, amphitheater, picnic shelters with grills, multi-age-level accessible playgrounds, lighted youth football field, basketball court, athletic practice fields, and designated open spaces. At the site, visitors are able to play hoops, host a company picnic, enjoy an evening of amphitheater entertainment, enjoy various forms of exercise, or just stroll along the pond.

imgLancaster City Park, a 24-acre facility with lots of large trees, includes four lighted baseball/softball fields, two tennis courts, two playground areas, two pavilions, and a three-quarter mile jogging/walking trail.

The Ten Mile Creek Preserve is a 47-acre undeveloped nature park for hikers, anglers and wildlife. There are six neighborhood parks located throughout the city to serve the community. Each of the five elementary schools has public-accessible playgrounds. A new addition to our parks is the Bear Creek Nature Preserve with bird watching and equestrian trails.

The Cedardale Softball Complex has three lighted fields, a full-size outdoor basketball court, a jogging/fitness trail, and a fenced playground. This complex plays host to some of the state’s biggest softball tournaments. Ten soccer fields are located at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex, a 20-acre park developed in conjunction with Cedar Valley College. Many of the Parks and Recreation Department facilities are available for rental. Call (972) 218-3700 for information.

Joe Pool Lake is a 7,500-acre reservoir located west of the city for water-sport enthusiasts. The Dallas Nature Center, with 630 acres of undeveloped land, is just a short drive to the west. The area around Joe Pool Lake and the Dallas Nature Center offers a variety of relaxing settings for visitors to escape for a day or weekend.
