Lancaster is a city of over 35,000 warm and friendly people surrounded by open farmland, low rolling hills, creeks and woodlands. Founded in 1852 as a frontier post, Lancaster is located south of the Dallas city limits. It encompasses 29 square miles bordered by Interstate 35E to the west, Ellis County to the south, Dallas (Interstate 20) and Hutchins to the north, and unincorporated areas of Dallas County (Interstate 45) to the east.
Living in Lancaster means close proximity (15 minutes) to downtown Dallas with less crowded roads and shorter commutes. Lancaster is a community of thriving neighborhoods and businesses, both old and new, where neighbors and merchants watch out for each other and take interest in what is happening around them. Residents and business people are active in various organizations in the city – the Lions Club, Rotary International, and Masonic Lodge – each have a chapter within the city.
While Lancaster enjoys the amenities of big-city life, it still maintains a small-town rural environment. It is an area of great diversity. Health care is of supreme importance to a community. Charlton Methodist Hospital is part of the Methodist Health System. A 191-bed facility with 140 physicians and 900 professional staff, the hospital is located 15 minutes from Lancaster with all services available.
There are numerous clinics and specialty medical facilities, physicians, dentists, and health care professionals serving Lancaster. Assisted living and rehabilitation facilities in the area serve the elderly and handicapped.
In 2001 Lancaster opened the state-of-the-art Lancaster Veteran’s Memorial Public Library. This facility has one of the premier genealogy sections in the state and offers many programs for children and teens. The library continually strives to serve the public in new ways, including computers with a Job Find program. The library is located on the city’s Community Park near the recreation center, and has a beautiful lake view.

Lancaster is a community of churches. Anyone looking for a spiritual home in Lancaster will have no trouble finding one. Over 50 churches of all sizes, representing almost every religious denomination, serve the spiritual needs of the citizens of Lancaster. Some congregations are newly formed, while others have over 100-year histories. Each serve the spiritual needs of their members and reach out to the community, helping the less fortunate by delivering charity in times of need.
