Country View Golf Course

Historic MKT Depot and Rose Garden

Lancaster's Historic MKT Depot was opened in 1888 as a stop on the Dallas and Waco Railroad, then later became part of the famous Missouri-Kansas-Texas line. The adjacent Rose Garden was added by the Lancaster Historical Society and was dedicated in memory of Cecil Edwards, former mayor.  The Depot is the site of Lancaster's annual OktoberFest.

2nd Saturday on the Square

Visit Lancaster on the 2nd Saturday of the month to find arts and crafts vendors, themed events, and live entertainment on the Historic Town Square.

Strain farm

Built in 1896, the W. A. Strain house stands proudly on a hill atop the Strain Farm, which is believed to be the oldest working farm in Dallas County, and is one of a small number of farms continuously owned and operated for more than 100 years by a single family.  Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the Strain Farm is open for educational tours by appointment.  Contact Carol Strain-Burk  at 972-227-1382.

Lancaster Municipal Airport

Fly in to Lancaster Municipal Airport.  The restaurant on-site is famous for their buffalo burgers, but their breakfasts are just as delicious!  While you're at the airport, be sure to visit the DFW Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, as well as the Cold War Air Museum.

Douglas R4D in flight

This Douglas R4D-6S "Ready for Duty" is part of the collection of vintage aircraft owned and operated by the Commemorative Air Force.  The DFW Wing of the CAF makes their base in a hangar at Lancaster Municipal Airport.  Their museum is open Saturday from 9 AM - 4 PM and Sunday from Noon - 4 PM, or by appointment.

Heritage Park - Christmas 2006

Heritage Park is located on Dallas Avenue (SH 342) adjacent to City Hall and just north of the Historic Town Square.  As shown here, it looks beautiful during December, but it's just as lovely in the spring and summer, when it's an oasis of green in the heart of the city.

Veterans Memorial Library

Lancaster Veterans Memorial Library features the Welton R. and Mildred Chapman Fail Genealogical Center, one of the finest collections in Texas for family research.  The Lancaster Genealogical Society meets there on the second Tuesday of each month (except December) and offers interesting and educational programs about genealogical research and other topics of interest.

Free Concerts in the Park Every Spring and Summer

Check "Upcoming Events" to find the schedule for free concerts in the park every year from April - June.  In addition to Heritage Park shown above, Lancaster boasts numerous parks with a variety of recreational facilities, including:

  • Community Park - indoor aquatics center with a leisure and lap pool, water slide, and pool party area; Little League baseball fields; fitness center with indoor walking track; gymnasium with multiple basketball courts; bike and jogging trail; pond with fishing pier; playgrounds; volleyball courts; outdoor basketball courts; youth football/soccer field; and picnic pavilions with charcoal grills.
  • City Park - tennis courts; picnic pavilions; softball fields; jogging/walking trail; playgrounds; basketball courts.
  • Bear Creek Nature Park - Lancaster's newest park featuring walking trails through 189 acres preserved largely in its native state.  A new tradition is the annual Haunted Hayride through Bear Creek Nature Park.
  • Kidsquare Park - The name says it all!  This park is just for kids, with playground equipment for children of all ages.

Ten Mile Creek Preserve

Ten Mile Creek Preserve - 47 acres of undeveloped land with natural (unpaved) trails for walking and hiking.  Ten Mile Creek runs through the park, so be sure to bring your fishing tackle!  The Preserve is adjacent to one of Lancaster's two historic cemeteries, so if you want to read a little history and poetry as presented on early tombstones, be sure to check out Edgewood Cemetery.

Marker at Edgewood Cemetery
One of many beautiful and historic markers at Edgewood Cemetery, near Ten Mile Preserve. These are just a few of the many parks Lancaster has to offer.  For a full list, click here to visit the City's website.
